Two years ago Musau WaKabongo reached out to us with a Call for Help, from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where survivors of the Luba ethnic cleansing are attempting to rebuild their lives and achieve a level of self-sufficiency.
Expelled from other regions of the Congo on at least two occasions, in particular the Shaba province, the once prosperous Luba people have been forced to return to their homeland, after years of living in refugee camps, to begin the long process of rebuilding, and healing from the atrocities of ethnic cleansing and civil war. The youth are the primary hope for the Luba peoples survival in the 21st Century. With the establishment of the Abbe Lazard Mpoyi Complex school, for orphaned children and youth living in the Eastern Province, Dr. WaKabongoa microbiologist and former Luba refugee shared that a great work is being done there. More and more children are making their way to the school complex everyday, excited for the chance to learn.!
As of this date, the student enrollment has grown to over 1000 students, and Father Jacques desperately needs our help in meeting the educational needs of these kids. The Foundation, in collaboration with two other local non-profits, paid the tuitions for 200 students in 2007, before the enrollment had doubled! Two digital cameras were also donated to the school in care of Father Jacques Kabengele Muzadi, school principal (pictured with the students above). Through the Foundation's collaboration with Dr. WaKabongo, we have set a attainable goal to financially support these children throughout the academic year. Dr. WaKabongo will serve as our liason, and we are pleased that she has recently joined the Board of Directors of the PhiLill Foundation.
We are setting a goal of $6000, which represents$6.00 per studentfor the 2008-09 school year.$6000 is a reasonable goal that can be easily raised - but only with your help.
Donations in any amount are greatly appreciated, and donations over $200 will receive a tax receipt, and an autographed copy of Phil Perry's latest CD - Ready For Love. We will provide you with oversight and regular updates on the progress of the students, throughout the school year.
Please don't wait. Send your donation today. Funds are urgently needed since the school year has already begun. Please make your check payable to The PhiLill Foundation, & designate in the memo - Congo/EIN # 77 0616024. Send your check to the following address -
The PhiLill Foundation 8780 19th Street Suite 407 Alta Loma CA 91701
If you are unable to give at this time, then please help by forwarding this to your contacts, because the more people who are made aware of this need, the greater the response will be to the Call of the Congo. Thank you in advance!
