"O" God: A Dialogue on Truth and Oprah's Spirituality (Book)

As Oprah Broadcasts From Texas State Fair in October, Audiences Binge on Unhealthy Food, According to New WND Book

DALLAS, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- As Oprah Winfrey indulges her world-wide viewing audience in their first taste of fried coke and deep fried butter - to-die-for favorites at the 2009 State Fair of Texas - during an Oct. 12 taping in Dallas, TX, a local best-selling author releases a new book about the unhealthy diet of spiritual food the media empress regularly sells the American public. Just days before the broadcast, "O" God: A Dialogue on Truth and Oprah's Spirituality (WND Books)," will be released during a public book release party at Barnes and Noble in the neighboring suburb of Plano, Wednesday, Oct. 7at 7 PM. The address is 2201 Preston Rd. Suite E, Plano, TX 75093.

Josh McDowell of Richardson, TX, whose classic book "More Than A Carpenter"has sold 35 million copies, teams on the "O" God book project with Probe Ministries' writer Dave Sterrett of Dallas, TX. Together, they shed light on nagging questions people have about Oprah's splintered spiritual teaching.

"Where as the Bible would say there is one way to God, Oprah would say there aremany ways to God," McDowell says in a 4-minute promotional video he and Sterrett taped at the historic Fairmont Hotel in downtown Dallas last month and later released on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2Zs-H6hAJM). "We think Oprah has done a lot of good, but we want the church to be clear about where she is coming from."

"O"God utilizes a fictional narrative of two graduate students, Lindsey and Avatari, who are immersed like so many people in Oprah's TV show, magazine, and popular webinars on faith, to discuss deeper doctrinal issues. In the book, a life crisis forces Lindsey to examine the hodgepodge of spirituality she has learned and has come to accept as gospel truth from Oprah and the authors' she endorses, including Marianne Williamson, Rhonda Byrne, and Eckhart Tolle.

"As Christian apologists who believe that salvation is by God's grace alone, through faith alone, and in Christ alone, we wanted to create a fictional, almost Socratic dialogue that would cover many of the themes of Oprah Winfrey's spiritual teaching in recent years," McDowell and Sterrett conclude.
