Former Georgetown University head coach, John Thompson Jr., looks on as the president of Georgetown University, Dr. John J. DeGioia, presents civil rights leader, Rev. Dr. Joseph E. Lowery, with  the John Thompson Jr. Legacy of a Dream Award during the Ninth Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Let Freedom Ring Kennedy Center Celebration.  Held on the King holiday, the award recognizes significant  contributions in community service and social justice that reflects the values and ideals of  Dr. King. Dr. Lowery was a close friend and colleague of Dr. King and was instrumental in convening the civil rights movement.
